WFMW - Ideas That Save Money

The question was asked at www.wearethatfamily.com: What programs do you use that really save you money. Well, I have found a few. I'm a coupon fanatic. I SOO get a kick out of finding something on sale, and then using a coupon, which then gets doubled by my store of choice. Yes!!!

Anyway, I get great coupons at the following websites:
http://print.coupons.com
http://www.eversave.com
www.couponmom.com

There are others, but these are the sites I use most frequently.

Another thing I use to save money is to buy my checks (if you don't have free checking - and one of my accounts doesn't), from some place like http://www.checkgallery.com. I find that they are much cheaper than buying from the bank, and even cheaper yet if you buy more than one package of checks at a time.

These are just some of the programs that I think are worth the time to save a buck. I'm looking forward so seeing what others have to say on this subject, as well. Go to http://www.wearethatfamily.com and read ideas for yourself!

Works for Me Wednesday - Applesauce!

Fall is one of our favorite times of the year for homemade dishes. We love apple season.
This year I wanted to make applesauce. I figured it would be better tasting, less sugar, and less money than store bought. You can't beat that!

So, just to make a starter batch, I found a really simple recipe.

Simply Delicious Applesauce

6 - 8 apples (I used Cortland and Honey Crisp, but there are numerous apples good for applesauce - you can find best choices online)
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. sugar (I used only about a 1/3)
1 TBS lemon juice
1 TBS butter

Wash, peel and quarter the apples, removing the seeds.
Place in a medium sized pan with remaining ingredients, and bring to a boil.
Cover and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes (the firmer the apple, the longer you'll need to simmer)
When apples are tender, remove the cinnamon stick, and mash! Voila, applesauce! Very good applesauce!

It tastes wonderful while still warm, but it's very good cold, too. Now that I've tested the recipe, I'm going to make some to keep. I can't make a lot, because I don't can...but, I can make enough for October, anyway.

This took me less than 35 minutes to make. The hardest part was peeling the apples!
That works for me!!

Works-for-Me Wednesday

Hi all, this is my first time posting on Works-For-Me Wednesday. So bear with me as I stumble through!

I am always looking for a piece of paper or something - ANYTHING, to write on to take down messages while on the phone. I love the post-it-notes because I can than "post" them near my computer if it's business related, or near the fridge if it's family related. But post-it notes can blend in with the scenery around here.

My mother does a lot of needlepoint and she made me a Post-It Note holder!

Now, my notepad is easily visible. It stands out on my white desk, or near my woodgrain table even amidst other things laying there.

The other thing she made from needlepoint that I absolutely love, is my notebook cover.

I have a love-hate relationship with my purses - and I'm sure I'm not alone. Everything gets lost and you can't tell what's in there! But this bright multi-colored pen and notebook holder is VERY noticeable. It's just about the only thing I go looking for in my purse that I can just go right to.

I don't know if she made up these patterns, or bought the patterns, or someone shared them with her, but I'm sure people could find them in craft stores, or make them up. All I know is, THEY WORK FOR ME!

And if I haven't already done so, mom, THANKS!
